One of the key factors contributing to Gongcha Japan’s popularity among Japanese students is its generous student discount. Below, I will provide a brief overview of how to use this discount and determine if you are eligible.
What is student discount?
Gongcha’s student discount is a service offered by Gongcha Japan to help students enjoy bubble tea at a more affordable price. As a student, I have greatly benefited from this discount, making my favorite drinks much more affordable. However, there are a few limitations to be aware of when applying for this discount (view below). If you plan to use it, be sure to review the details below.
Eligibility
Gongcha’s student discount is available to all students from elementary school onwards. According to Gongcha’s official website and confirmation via email, this service includes all students who are beyond elementary school. Previously, the discount was also extended to younger children, including preschoolers. However, in September 2023, Gongcha announced a change in eligibility, excluding preschoolers due to potential adverse health effects that caffeine may cause to preschooler. Therefore, Gongcha recommends preschooler to get the “kids drink” that exclude caffeine. (Reference: Gongcha Student Discount, 2023 press release)
Rules that need to be followed:
While the plan is excellent, there are a few rules and limitations to use the service, outlined below:
- The discount is available only for the following four drinks on the menu:
- Wulong Milk Tea + pearl
- Black Milk Tea + pearl
- Black Sugar Wulong Milk Tea + pearl
- Black Sugar Black Milk Tea + pearl.
- Only one drink per student is allowed. In other words, students cannot use their discount to get bubble tea for their parents.
- If you are a junior high school student or older, you may be asked to present your student ID. So you should bring your student
ID in case that ask to confirm!
